Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer screening is an essential part of your examination, not an add-on. Catching tissue changes early makes an enormous difference to outcomes.

What the screening covers

We thoroughly assess the head, neck, and face for swollen lymph nodes or glands, skin lesions, and changes in musculature and symmetry. We then examine the inside surfaces of the lips and cheeks, the floor of the mouth, all surfaces of the tongue, and the throat and tonsillar regions.

Many kinds of tissue change can occur in the mouth — some normal, some not. We work closely with specialists to determine whether any change is of concern.

Check yourself between visits

We'll show you how to perform an oral cancer self-examination at home so you know what to look for, and what to bring to our attention between appointments.
