Dental Hygiene & Cleanings

Everyone prefers a different kind of cleaning. We're sensitive to your preferences and can modify our technique to make every appointment as comfortable as possible for you and your family.

Gentle cleanings, your way

There are many ways we can accommodate and adjust how we clean. We encourage patients to tell us what feels comfortable — a thorough but gentle and pleasant cleaning is our top priority.

We offer several forms of numbing to increase your comfort. A numbing gel can be applied below the gumline — this is not an injection. It typically lasts about 20 minutes and can be reapplied to different areas at any time. Freezing with dental anesthetic is also available.

What to expect at your cleaning

Our hygienists always begin with a detailed medical history to ensure care is delivered safely. After a thorough exam of your head, neck, and mouth, they evaluate the health of your teeth and gums, and together we build a treatment plan for your oral health.

What your dental hygienist can do

  • Plaque and tartar removal
  • Polishing to remove stains
  • Treatment and prevention of oral disease
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Radiographs to assess hard tissues
  • Whitening procedures
  • Oral hygiene education
  • Laser treatments

Oral hygiene education

Our hygienists work hard to inform you about oral health and disease, home care technique, self oral-cancer screening, and caring for your children's teeth or for someone in your care.

Gingivitis and periodontitis are two very common forms of gum disease, and often you won't realize you have them until your dentist or hygienist tells you. Regular cleanings and exams are important in both preventing and treating them — children and adults alike can develop these conditions.
