Cosmetic Whitening

Did you know 50% of people notice your smile first? Whitening is a common, safe way to brighten your smile — suitable for almost everyone, typically over the age of 16 to 18.

Understanding stain

There are two types of stain: extrinsic, which sits on the teeth and usually comes from coffee, tea, or tobacco; and intrinsic, which forms within the tooth structure from ageing, medications, or how the enamel and dentin formed. A thorough cleaning and polish before whitening is essential and can actually speed the process up.

Some temporary sensitivity can accompany any form of whitening — talk to us about how to reduce or eliminate it during and after treatment.

Take-home whitening

We custom-make trays to fit your mouth and provide professional-strength whitening gel worn for a prescribed period — typically 30 minutes a day, or overnight. This gives us more control over the process and helps achieve the most optimal result.

In-office whitening

A fast form of whitening, or a jump start to the process — usually one appointment is all that's needed. The gums are covered and protected, professional-strength gel is painted on, and an LED light accelerates the result. This system produces virtually zero sensitivity during or after treatment.

Non-vital bleaching

After trauma or root canal treatment a tooth can darken and discolour. In those cases we whiten the tooth from the inside out, which is far more effective than treating the surface alone.
