Let's Chat Waterpik
Hi there, and welcome! Thanks for popping over to check out our blog space. Let's be honest — they didn't teach blog writing 101 in any of the dental courses, so be patient with us as we navigate this new world. We'll stick to what we know best: oral health. Here you'll find useful information about your dental health — tips, demystified dental facts, new products, and interesting "did you knows."
So what is a Waterpik?
An oral irrigation tool used to remove bacterial deposits from your teeth and gumline. (It also doubles nicely as a bathroom water-fight spray tool, but we'd recommend the first use.) The Waterpik has been around for decades. Studies consistently show its effectiveness at removing bacterial plaque and decreasing bleeding and inflammation, and it carries the Canadian Dental Association seal of approval.
Could it be for me?
A water flosser is beneficial for just about anyone. It's excellent for cleaning around braces, an essential tool for implant maintenance, helps treat and prevent gum disease, and aids in stain removal. It's safe and recommended for ages six and up. With so much variety in products, we always suggest speaking to one of our dental hygienists, dentists or team members about what's best suited for you — a thorough assessment at your appointment helps us create your individualized care plan.
Getting started
There's no question — using a Waterpik for the first few times can get a bit messy. Starting on the lowest setting keeps your gums safe and lets you perfect your technique before increasing intensity. If you need a rain poncho, best to go back to the basics. Find a level that's comfortable for you and your gums. Remember, it's not a contest: the high setting doesn't mean the healthiest mouth. Technique, consistency and following the manufacturer's instructions are what will help you succeed.
